Movie for Less

June 22, 2009 By: jill Category: Etc Etc Etc No Comments →

For Php15.00 per head, my hubby and I went on a movie date last Saturday(June 20) at SM Megamall Cinema 12. It’s incredibly surprising when most consumer buys are really skyrocketing! Actually, it was only Php10.00 but another 5 was added for the tax. The price was very cheap but the movie wasn’t that bad at all. The movie theater was not even loaded. We liked the movie. It was a Brendan Fraser movie entitled “The Journey To The Center Of The Earth” which was said to have been shown just last month, as far as we know.

SM’s movie promo started June 17 but will only be until the 23rd of the same month. If anything comes out again like this, why not?

OnTue.Com Site

June 16, 2009 By: jill Category: ESL Resource, ESL Tutor 1 Comment →

Due to a number of people asking me about my current part-time job as an ESL Online tutor (Home-based) and how I got it, I had to rant about this one. This site was the one in charge of it all. Please read on…

OnTue.Com is an online site that helps ESL teachers and students find each other. Most of the clients here are Koreans while many teachers are Filipinos.

At first, I find this hard to manage as there are many requirements before one can completely enjoy its features but their posting requirements though tedious, I should say, made sense after all.

Thru this site, teachers can create their own profile with their resume and pictures, sample videos and audios, class schedules, blogs about online teaching so that students and employers can easily find them. Teachers can also exchange ideas about their teaching strategies and experiences. By using their sections, a teacher will have greater chances of getting students or employers whichever is desired. It’s a good way of marketing oneself for FREE!!! Students and employers can also place ads for their needs for FREE. Teachers can see the section, “TEACHERS WANTED”. This section is a listing of current students or employers seeking for teachers. While in the “STUDENTS WANTED” , teachers can post their schedule and rate so that students can get in touch with the teachers.

What’s good about OnTue.Com is that the statistics of teachers, students and employers who use this are so high that it is very easy to find what you are looking for. The statistics alone can tell you if this is a working site or not.

As of today, June 16, 2009, there are 6803 teachers. Because there are many qualified teachers on the site, more students and employers look and place their ads on this site. Some sites have a few teachers and a few students but chances are slim for outsourcing ones needs.

Of all my internet surfing for an ESL job, this is the site that produced result in me! Visit the site, learn more about it, post your curriculum vitae and get an ESL job that you’ve been searching for.

A Mother’s Anxiety

June 11, 2009 By: jill Category: Mommy Jill 5 Comments →

My class starts at 2pm and ends at exactly 8pm. Sometimes when I have my break, I go out of my room to check my children especially when I feel the need to.

My husband arrives at a varying time from 5pm up to 7pm. But he goes home the earliest possible when needed.

As parents, we are most especially concerned about our children’s needs. I am just a wall away from them and I can hear clearly their cries of wanting me to be beside them. We have hired a part-time yaya as I am also just a part-timer for this online job. However, my children who are three and two years old are really very choosy with the person/s who look after them. Adjusting is not easy for them. There is a stranger anxiety, most of the time. Sometimes too, separation anxiety. These two are normal for most who are very young children.

Sometimes I can’t help but conclude my about children’s attitude. I am thinking it’s in the genes that they could have inherited from either of us. But nowadays, there are so many ways to help children cope with these anxieties. Children vary. Some may be effective for them while some are not. Here are some that I’ve learned but doesn’t mean that I use them =) Hope you can add some more.

1. Tell them ahead of time what is going to happen, where are you going and who will be with them.

2. Introduce new people one at a time and have them get comfy with the new person.

3. Kiss them goodbye. Don’t escape like a thief does.

4. For very young children, playing peek-a-boo is a learning tool about object permanence and when something is gone, they can be back too.

5. Bring them to children’s party, day care centers or nursery programs and others.

6. If children have their own preference, know what it is. Try to make adjustments gradually.

7. Practice them beforehand how to say hi and smile to other people.

8. Read to them storybooks about meeting new people and parents having to leave and come back home again. A better and fun way of explaining this to them.

9. As a parent, be friendly. Be the first to set an example to them.

10. When you leave, don’t bring their anxiety with you. They say!

Jill’s New Routine

June 10, 2009 By: jill Category: ESL Tutor, Our Home 1 Comment →

Watching these shows used to be a part of my afternoon-evening routine.

The Sweet Life by Lucy Torres-Gomez

TV Patrol

May Bukas Pa

Tayong Dalawa

I am not a great fan of these shows but that’s all that I can do after exhausting my energy for a day in the internet. I am so glad I have changed my course since I started my work-at-home. Though I don’t have the time to watch them anymore, I am not saddened by it. What I do now is more fruitful and healthy, I suppose. Besides, it’s just 6 hours!

I just love this new part of my life.
